How is a Tooth Extracted?
Before your tooth extraction, the dentist will take X-rays to assess the tooth and plan the procedure. A local anesthetic will be administered to ensure you don’t feel any pain during the process. The dentist will then use an elevator tool to loosen the tooth by separating it from the surrounding ligaments and gum tissue. Afterward, forceps will be used to gently rock the tooth until it breaks free. In some cases, if the tooth is resistant, it may need to be broken into smaller pieces for easier removal.
Once the tooth is extracted, gauze will be placed in the socket, and you’ll need to bite down to control bleeding. If needed, stitches will be applied to close the socket.
